Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
This is a list of questions that have been asked about CleverPsych.
For detailed information refer to the manual.
1. Where is the CleverPsych manual? I cant find any manual file.
The manual is the PDF file CleverPsych.pdf in the doco folder within
the CleverPsych folder.
i.e. C:\CleverPsych\Doco\CleverPsych.pfd.
To display it you simply need to find the file with Explorer (My
Computer) and double
click it.
We assume that everyone will have the Adobe application to do this
these days, if not google for "Adobe Reader download".
2. I clicked on the CleverPsych icon but nothing appeared!
When I try to open it this is what it says in the black window:
"C:\CleverData\Scripts\CleverPsych.cmd. The
specified path does not exist. Check the path, and then try
again."
The earlier versions assumed that new users would work their way
through the manual while using the demonstration version of CleverPsych
and then set up the production version by making a copy of the demo
system.
This has caused some confusion, so from version 5.3 this will be done
automatically when the CleverPsych icon is first clicked.
If you have an earlier system...
Have
a look at the SETTING UP YOUR SYSTEM chapter (14) in the manual in
CleverPsych\doco.
Basically...
- In windows explorer (My Computer) open up the C: drive
- You should have two folders, CleverPsysch which contains the
software, manual etc, and CleverDemo which is the data for the
demonstration.
- You need a CleverData folder. Only do the following IF IT IS NOT
THERE
- Make a copy of the CleverDemo folder (copy and paste)
- Rename the copy to CleverData
- Go into the database folder in the new CleverData folder and
DELETE the Database.xml file (this is Donald duck etc ) i.e.
C:\CleverData\database\Database.xml
- Click on the CleverData icon to start up the system. A new
database will be created.
3. Why
does the archaic DOS black & white panel appear before the program
opens,
& the remain until deliberately closed?
This will display any extraneous
system messages. Without it the program may not run
(e.g. some missing files) or you get some strange happenings and
you have no idea what is wrong.
See
section 3.9 in the manual.
4. The manual says to modify a configuration file but when I edit
the file it looks
different.
When you download a new version you get new CleverPsych and a new
CleverDemo folder.
Your CleverData folder is initially created as a copy of the CleverDemo
folder.
When you start up after downloading a new version the system will
attempt to update your CleverData files.
On older versions this may not happen.
You may need to copy new files from the new CleverDemo folder to your
CleverData folder.
For example, if you want to change the Diary ranges as described in the
manual, you may have to copy the start file first.
5. The
backup procedure is complicated & clunky, including the requirement
to manually enter the date of the last backup in the misc panel.
This
is only to
remind people to do a backup.
Backup
is only a
matter of inserting a DVD (or other media) and then dragging the
folders
(CleverData and your stuff) from explorer to it. There doesnt seem to
be any point of
writing special software to do it. Theres also the Microsoft backup.
